  • Losing rear end grip

I'm not sure why everything seems to be going wrong at the moment, but over the last few weeks I haven't had as much grip at the rear as I have had in the past - on the F1s its been pretty much glued to the road until now.

Now I'm triggering the TRC all the time (even in the dry) and this morning had quite a hairy aquaplaning moment on some standing water - again something that hasn't happened at all since getting the F1s and it was curious as the front was totally planted but it was just the rear that went.

I've looked at my tyres and they look fine, there's plenty of tread on them and nothing obvious wrong. Haven't checked my pressures for a bit so going to do that this evening but could there be anything else wrong?

I guess I could have knocked the geo out in a pothole or something but that couldn't have had such a drastic effect could it?

You may of found out what wrong already by checking the pressure of each wheel.
Also would there of been a chance that a spill may of happen on this bit of road?

I wouldn't have thought it would be the geo either. I would be inclined to check the pressures first too.

Right so that is the most likely cause, just thinking that I only had the car serviced a few months ago, so maybe they dropped the pressures as per Lexus spec.....

Stop doing burnouts at the lights bro

Keep on top of your tyre pressure 35psi all round. You might have gone over an oil spill and some of it is still in the thread...

have to remember it's been dry for a while and suddenly when it's wet it will cause the roads to become more greasey, I would defo say check pressure+geo 35psi for me too.
I changed my tyres from Eagle F1's to FK452's and tbh I've found the Falkens to be better even when i'm larking around i've still not got the back end out with TRC off (apart from when they were first fitted and the car went sideways coming out of the tyre garage )

Thanks for all the replies, couldn't be bothered to check the pressures yesterday but hopefully do it tonight.

Only really noticed it because I was losing grip in the dry - around local roads I know exactly when and where I'll get some slip and the TC will flick on when turning right or left. Recently I've found the TC coming on at places where it wouldn't previously.

To make it more confusing, high speed grip is still fine, going round roundabouts at speed I'm not losing the back end.......

Will check the pressures, and other than that a visit to WIM is in order anyway.

Checked my pressures, all were around 32 so think they might have knocked them down at the service a month ago.......but I also haven't checked them so probably that too!

Put them back up to 37 - is that what some were recommending on 18s (can't remember which thread that was being discussed in a few weeks ago)

mine were at 32 so i upped them to 35 and it feels much better at high speeds and in the wet

Oh so I was one off.....I'll put them up when I get a chance - hopefully there'll be an improvement at 37

Really 37 or 38 on 18s? Since seeing Tony I've run them at 35psi still, same as when I was on 17s.

                        So it's deffo 38psi?

I think this is a bit speculative still, one member (cous3?) mentioned he was running 38psi and the handling was better so a few others are now trying it too

Yeah I thought my handling took a turn for the worst when I went from 17s to 18s, and Keith suggested I try 38psi on those instead of 35. It feels a lot better for me. No harm in experimenting and seeing what feels best for you.

I cant say I find the handling any worse on 18s. I have found the car drinks more fuel recently, but I'm not sure if its down to the slightly wider tyres and '3psi' all round.

I had it tracked at WIM and Tony said to keep it at 35psi all round... Not sure if I'd notice a 3psi difference TBH. Placebo effect and all that
