  • Look What I picked Up.....

For £19.99 from Evilbay........ Considering these were in the £200 bracket not too long ago it's got to be a bargain

Now I know people seemed to have mixed accounts of these B&M shifters, for example the difficulty in engaging reverse. So before I fit this what do I need to do? Do I need to add more lubrication? If so what/where and where do buy it?

Next, excuse my ignorance, but do I remove the plastic cup from the end of the shifter knob/ball (see pic) before fitting it?.

    Thanks in advance guys.

Cheers Saraj, seen Stav's guide, and the instructions that come with it are very good, but I'm looking for info from people who have fitted them recently. Anyone solve the reverse gear problem?

          Hi mate,

Fitted my B&M last week and i gotta say the instructions are top notch but it is pretty str8forward anyway

Its literally a couple of nuts and bolts and a lil force to pull the old shifter and a bit more to put the new one in - fitted mine in bout 30mins.

U dont need to take the cup thing off the ball joint it jus slots in once its lined up.

Goin up thru the gears when driving makes a real difference but i gotta admit reverse is a pain in the F**kin A**e!! I gotta use two hands to force it in.

I did use more grease to help but it doesnt make a huge amount of difference, although a lot of ppl have sed it works better as one swift movement from neutral. IMO its the same - but each to his own.

I'm jus hoping that eventually it'll wear in but tbh if u spend that much time in reverse it aint worth drivin at all!!

Yeah ive noiticed its stiffer to reverse, but a swift sharp movement and it goes across fine.

Select reverse in one movement (from neutral) and you won't have any problems. Selecting the reverse gear using the B&M shifter takes some getting used to.

                And I thought I got a bargain at £36 for a B&M shifter!

Well I'm defeated I just spent the best part of 3 hours trying to get the B&M Shifter fitted and no luck........I'm well pi**ed off. Now I must have been doing something wrong.........I got the OEM shifter out no probs, but I just couldn't get the B&M one back in. No matter how much pushing or twisting I did it didn't want to go in all the way, the blue collar at the bottom of the shifter was still about an 40mm above where the bolts go into the gearbox fitting.......So I had to give up and re-fit the OEM shifter again

Guess I'll have to wait until I get to another meet and get one of you who have already fitted one to help me.

Sorry to hear it's frustrated you Keith. How about taking a pic of where you've got it almost fitted but not quite, then posting it for someone to see what they think the problem is ?

Yep, as Stevie said post a pic of how far you get with the install and where you encouter the problem. I'm sure those of us who have fitted the B&M shifter should be able to help you.

When I fitted my non B&M short shifter the hardest bit was removed the metal plate over the shifter - rest of it just slotted in. Is your one definitely for the IS200?

Yup defo IS200.......from 2000 onward for the IS200, mines 2001.

Inserted the ball joint/plastic cup end but just couldn't get it too go any further down, I kind of expected it to be a little tight but just drop in with a bit of pressure........but no Don't think a pic would help as once the end is inserted you can't see anything except the shifter sticking out? Seems to be about a 40mm gap before the blue collar at the bottom of the shifter should make contact and be bolted down......very frustrating
